Privacy Policy

Dwellhand · Effective date: July 2, 2024 · Dwellhand has served Los Angeles County since 2024.

This policy explains what information Dwellhand ("we," "us") collects when you use dwellhand.com and app.dwellhand.com (the "Service"), how we use it, and the choices you have. We've written it to be read, not skimmed past.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. When you create an account: your name, email address, and password (stored in hashed form). If you subscribe: your plan tier and billing history.

Payment information. Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card number goes to Stripe, not to us — we receive only what we need to manage your subscription (such as the card brand, last four digits, and payment status). Stripe's handling of your data is governed by Stripe's own privacy policy.

Builder Counsel intake information. If you request builder introductions, we ask for details about your project: property address, approximate budget range, insurance situation, design status, timeline, and priorities. This is the most sensitive information we hold, and Section 3 explains exactly who sees it.

Usage information. Like most websites, we collect standard technical data — pages visited, searches run within the Service, device and browser type, and IP address — through our platform providers' analytics (Squarespace on our marketing site; our own application infrastructure on the app). We use this to operate and improve the Service.

Communications. If you email us or use our contact form, we keep the correspondence.

2. What We Do With It

We use your information to: provide and personalize the Service; process subscriptions and payments; make builder introductions you request; respond to support requests; send service notices and, if you opt in, product updates (you can unsubscribe from marketing at any time); maintain security; and improve the Service. We do not sell your personal information.

3. Who We Share It With

Participating builders — only at your request. When you ask for introductions through Builder Counsel, we share the project details a builder reasonably needs to evaluate fit: typically your name, contact information, property address, project scope, design status, and budget range. We share this only with the specific builders we introduce to you (usually two or three), and only after our intake process with you. Builders are required to use it solely to evaluate and communicate about your project. We never sell intake information or share it with builders you were not introduced to.

Service providers. We use trusted providers to run the Service — including Stripe (payments), Supabase (application database and authentication), Vercel (application hosting), and Squarespace (marketing site and forms). Each receives only what it needs to perform its function.

Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Dwellhand or others.

Business transfers. If Dwellhand is acquired or merges, information may transfer with the business; this policy would continue to apply until replaced.

4. A Note on Public Records

The builder, architect, engineer, and permit information displayed on the Service comes from public government records — building permits and state licensing files. Information about licensed professionals and permitted construction work is public by law. If you believe a public record about you is inaccurate, the authoritative correction path is with the issuing agency (for example, the CSLB or the permitting jurisdiction); we display records as issued and update as sources update. If our display doesn't match the source record, contact us and we will review it.

5. Cookies

Our sites use cookies and similar technologies for sign-in sessions, preferences, and analytics. You can control cookies through your browser settings; blocking some cookies may affect sign-in and site function.

6. Data Retention

We keep account information while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward for legal, accounting, and security purposes. Builder Counsel intake records are retained so we can support your project over its lifecycle and document our referral process. You may request deletion as described below.

7. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards — encrypted connections, hashed passwords, access controls, and reputable infrastructure providers. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights and Choices

You may: access and update your account information in your settings; unsubscribe from marketing emails via the link in any such email; and contact us to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, correction of inaccuracies, or deletion of your personal information (subject to legal retention requirements). California residents: we honor requests to know, correct, and delete as described above, and we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of on that front. We will never discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

Requests: use the contact form at dwellhand.com/contact and include "Privacy Request" in your message. We will verify your identity before acting on a request and respond within a reasonable time.

Note that the public-record information described in Section 4 is not "personal information we collected from you" — it is government record data, and the correction path in Section 4 applies to it.

9. Children

The Service is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from minors. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new effective date and notify account holders of material changes by email or in-product notice.

11. Contact
